Quotations

"A priest, although ordained for a universal mission, exercises his ministry in a particular Church. This ministry is pursued in sacramental brotherhood with other priests who form the "presbyterate". In communion with the bishop, and depending on him, they bear the responsibility for the particular Church."

(Catechism of the Catholic Church #329)

Priesthood Sunday 2011

Today is an opportunity to highlight and promote particularly the vocation to the priesthood.

The number of priests per Catholic has declined over the past 40 years. This makes it more difficult for individual parishioners to establish a close relationship with any one particular priest. Also, priests are no longer the only ones who offer pastoral care to our people. Yet without a priest, no parish is able to be a Eucharistic community. It is important to reaffirm the importance of the priesthood of Jesus Christ and its central place in the life of our Church.

Prayer for Priests: O Lord, thank you for the gift of Pastors & Ministers to feed your flock. Enable them, by the power of the spirit to stand firm in the midst of the trials and stresses of this world. Give them the courage to speak your word faithfully and the grace to reflect your love in their actions. Amen.
