Quotations

"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep…I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep”.

(John 10: 14ff)

Parent calls for a more developed vocations strategy

ordination

In a blog entry recently, a catholic parent writes about the need for the Church to have a more developed Vocations promotion strategy.  He said; "Vocations is something that needs to be spoken about in Catholic families and schools. Children need to be given knowledge and guidance about the notion of "Vocation", a word which derives from the latin, vocare, meaning to call.

God calls each one of us, Jesus calls us to himself. We each have a vocation - we are (called) by God to live faithful Christian lives. For most of us it is a calling to the married life, for some a single life. For a chosen few it is a special calling to the religious life or the priesthood. An important part of the young Christian life is to discern how God is calling us, to discover and respond to that calling, that Vocation. Vocation needs to be an important part of renewal of the Catholic church in Ireland.
