Quotations

"In the priesthood a man gives his flesh and blood to Christ and the Church to use as God sees fits. ‘This is my body,” the priest says holding the host, but also speaking of his very self, “given up for you."

(Fr. Anthony Denton, Melbourne Archdiocese)

National Conference

Each year around the third week of October, the Vocation Directors from the twenty six Irish Dioceses gather together for a perisod of reflection and discussion about the challenges of carrying out the work of vocations promotion in the modern church.

The gathering is an essential part of the annual work of a Diocesan Vocations Director, and it is facilitated and arranged by the National Coordinator.

This year, the conference will take place from Sunday 16th through to Tuesday 18th October, at the Killashee House Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare.

The theme will be: "Priesthood: The Audacity of God"

This is linked to the words of Pope Benedict at the conclusion of the recent 'Year for Priests'; when he said;

"The priesthood, then, is not simply "office" but sacrament: God makes use of us poor men in order to be, through us, present to all men and women, and to act on their behalf. This audacity of God who entrusts himself to human beings – who, conscious of our weaknesses, nonetheless considers men capable of acting and being present in his stead – this audacity of God is the true grandeur concealed in the word "priesthood". That God thinks that we are capable of this; that in this way he calls men to his service and thus from within binds himself to them: this is what we wanted to reflect upon and appreciate anew over the course of the past year".

Among the speakers for the conference this year are;
  1. Fr.
  2. Ms.
  3. Mr.
They will be reflecting on the challenge of the vocations ministry in these days.
