The Congregation for the Clergy, in Rome, released this message to all priests on the Feast of St. John Vianney;
Dear brother priests,
On the occasion of the August 4th feast of St. John Marie Vianney, the Curé of Ars, I greet you cordially with all my heart, and I fraternally send you this brief message.
The Church knows today that there is an urgent mission, not only “ad gentes,” but also to those Christians living in areas and regions where the Christian faith has been preached and established for centuries and where ecclesial communities already exist. |

World Youth Day Encourages Vocations |
Perth has a new priest from Slovakia that has a special connection with the youth of the Archdiocese, and is drawing them into a deeper relationship with Christ in extraordinary ways. Having only moved to Perth to complete his seminary studies in 2003, Father Pavol Herda, 29, is a self-confessed sports nut. He’s played soccer since he was nine, loves ice hockey and rollerblading and still plays for a local suburban soccer team. |

World Youth Day Quotes about Vocations |
Dear friends, this is the mystery of God's call, the mystery of vocation. It is part of the life of every Christian, but it is particularly evident in those whom Christ asks to leave everything in order to follow him more closely. The seminarian experiences the beauty of that call in a moment of grace which could be defined as "falling in love". His soul is filled with amazement, which makes him ask in prayer: "Lord, why me?". But love knows no "why"; it is a free gift to which one responds with the gift of self.(Pope Benedict XVI, Cologne 2005) |

Pope Speaks to the Priests of Brindisi |
 I would like to encourage you with my presence today to place yourselves with ever growing openness at the service of the Gospel and of the Church. I know that you already work with zeal and intelligence, sparing no energy in spreading the joyful Gospel proclamation. Christ, to whom you have consecrated your lives, is with you! In him we all believe, to him alone we entrust our lives, it is he whom we desire to proclaim to the world. May Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life (cf. Jn 14: 6), be the object of our thought, the topic of our words, the reason for our life. |

Archbishop Chaput on Vocations |
|
Healthy families, parish communities, foster vocations: If God called men to the priesthood by reaching down and tapping them on the shoulders, we would not be lacking for vocations. But the "call" is much more subtle than that, and responding to it requires a good measure of human encouragement. Vocations are seldom the result of visions, dramatic miracles or near-death experiences. Instead, nurtured by others, they grow quietly and gradually. Like seedlings which receive the necessary sunlight and water to mature into beautiful trees.

Vocation Directors Welcome News |
|
Vocation Directors across Ireland are delighted with the news that in 2012, Dublin will host the Eucharistic Congress. A major international event such as this will help to focus many men to 'listen again' for God's call to priesthood. The link between the Eucharist and the Priesthood has been established since the beginning of the Church, and was articulated in the Papal Encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia (2003) where Pope John Paul II said ;

Priests for Scotland is an initiative of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland which aims to address issues of significance to priests working in Scotland. Priests for Scotland is also concerned with the promotion of vocations to the priesthood in the dioceses of Scotland. |
 Ordaining married men is not a guaranteed way to solve a vocations crisis, and it will not automatically improve the quality of priests, said Cardinal Lubomyr Husar of Kiev-Halych, head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. "The quality of the priest does not depend on whether or not he is married," the cardinal said in a Jan. 4 interview with the Vatican newspaper. |

Please have a look at the section "Commonly asked questions" to find our what educational standards are needed for entry into Seminary. |

Initially set up by young, lay, Catholic women to support one another as they discern their vocation in life, the group holds Monthly meetings at Westminster Cathedral, with guest speakers talking on a variety of vocational issues.
