Quotations

“Nothing is more attractive than a disciple following the example of Jesus in his or her life, and a lot of that example was and remains counter-cultural. We must live by Jesus' different set of values, a life where "It isn't about me, it's about you," a life where there is something greater than the dollar or the status or the attention, a life worth sacrificing for the sake of others".

(Father James Forsen, director of the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Office for Vocations).

Rome Meeting for Vocations Service
The European Vocations Service (EVS) Annual Conference got underway in Rome on Thursday 2nd July with 5 delegates from ireland attending, including the national Co-Ordinator for Diocesan Vocations, Fr. Patrick Rushe.  The Conference brings together 22 European Countries and will be studying the topic "Sowing the gospel of vocations: A calling and inviting word".
Opening the conference, Fr. Jean-Pierre Leroy, Belgium, and the current European Co-Ordinator, rememebered the first meeting some 20 years ago, and highlighted the growing importance of this kind of event.  He recalled that some years ago the EVS agreed a major text called 'New Vocations for a New Europe', and he stated that all Vocation Directors are hoping that the 'Year for Priests' which has been initiated will be an opportunity for all priests to renew their own priestly lives, and through that to become better influnces on (young) men to answer the call of vocation to priesthood.

The first paper delivered was that of Professor Rosana Vigili on the Dynamics of Call and Response.  The Vocation Directors will meet the Holy Father in a private audience on Saturday 4th July.
